resto hopping at Little Tokyo

Bf and I were out on a mission: to resto hop at the infamous Little Tokyo in Makati. The challenge: ...on a limited budget (tipid mode because of an out of town trip next weekend :)). To not spend more than PHP 500 each. We tried 3 different restaurants: Hana, Shinjuku, and Oishinbo. We were supposed to try Seryna because of my week long craving of their Chirashizushi.. but too bad we're late, it's only available during lunch.

Little Tokyo is a compound of Japanese restaurants where you can taste the freshest and authentic japanese food in the metro.

We were at Little Tokyo around 3pm. First stop, Hana.. famous for the Takoyaki balls. It was yummy and soft inside.

We also ordered Melon Kakigori with milk. Simple and sweet. BF liked this so much as he misses eating his childhood fave flavored crushed iced dessert. We wanted hot tea with these (or maybe just because it's free, why not abuse it? :)) LOL we actually asked for it in all the 3 restos.
Damage: PHP 200

Next stop, Shinjuku. We ordered a bowl of Beef Ramen. The regular size is good for sharing. Hot and filling. Busog O.o
Damage: PHP 235

Our last stop, Oishinbo. Bf just wanted his same old favorite vegetable tempura. And for me, my usual California maki. I loved the mayo they used for the maki. Crazy, I was dipping my maki on it first before dipping in soy sauce with wasabi.
Damage: PHP 400

Mission accomplished :) I would definitely want to go back.. next time for Chira Sushi in Seryna, of course! And to try yakiniku in Urameshiya, and mix sushi in Izakaya Kikufuji ♥ Still lots of jap restos to try in Little Tokyo :)

Kitchen Hullabaloo: strawberries and mangoes

Let me take you down 'coz I'm going to strawberry fields... -The Beatles

Mango and strawberry shake turned mango and strawberry dipped in a cup of condensed milk. No ice available in the fridge and too lazy to make some ice.. and I can't wait to eat the strawberries :) hehe Drank a cup of Cadbury hot chocolate with these. Sweetness overload ♥

Pick the sweetest ripe mango you can get for this dessert. I used 1 piece of of large sized mango and a pack of strawberries. Slice the mangoes into cubes and remove the leaves and stems of the strawberries. Arrange on a plate and serve with half cup of condensed milk.

Serves 2-4 persons

strawberries + mangoes + condensed milk = perfect combination

I ate mine while dinking Cadbury hot chocolate :) Yummy!

Ingredient #2: cheese sliced into strips

Ingredient #3: tikoy cut into strips

Kitchen Hullabaloo: homemade fine dining <3

For the first time, BF and I decided to cook our own dinner to celebrate our 7th anniversary. We made a main course with sides, appetizer, and soup ouselves. We cooked for almost 3 hours! Our ala carte dish consists of the following: t bone steak, buttered veggies, mashed potato with gravy, mushroom soup, and onion rings, and a glass of wine of course! :)

Kitchen Hullabaloo: Mango Float

I first tasted mango float a.k.a refrigerator cake back in high school from a friend's mom. It was really delicious. Recently, I've made my own. Just in time for summer when it's hot and sweet mangoes are in season :)

Photo below is my almost done mango float.

Gladly, BF liked my mango float. :) Secret to perfect it, is not to make it too sweet. My ratio for the cream and condensed milk is 2:1, respectively. For example, for every 2 cans of cream, use 1 can of condensed milk. For this I used 2 cans of Nestle cream and 1 tetra pack of Alaska condensada.

Mix the the cream and milk in a bowl. Don't mix it too much as if you're making a whipped cream. Just enough that both ingredients are blended. Layer the graham crackers, mixture (of milk and cream), graham crakers, mixture, sliced mangoes, mixture, and crushed grahams. Put inside freezer for 2 to 3 hours. Then ready to eat :) Enjoy!

Kitchen Hullabaloo: usual breakfast with BF

I'd like to share a photo of what BF and I usually cook for breakfast Tadaaaa... Vienna Sausage and Pancakes. LOL

I love mojos @.@

An old favorite.. Shakey's mojos. Recently we've tried their Basket of Mojos. It comes with 2 types of dips, Zesty Caesar and Garlic Ranch. Anybody here who can share a Shakey's-like  recipe of mojos? :) I would love to make it in my own kitchen :))

that Forrest Gump resto

Bubba to Forrest: Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it. (Forrest Gump 1994)

This is the second time me and BF got back to dine here.. all for the love of shrimps and onion rings <3

If you liked the movie Forrest Gump or you simply want to eat shrimps, you should try dining at Bubba Gump. Forrest Gump inspired restaurant because of things that remind us of the movie such as framed photos from the scenes in the movie, Run Forrest Run cue to order, table tennis racket drinks menu.

Shrimper's Heaven

If you're a first timer and can't decide what shrimp to try or you just love shrimp.. order their Shrimper's Heaven. Four types of shrimp namely Coconut Shrimp (deep fried beer battered shrimp in coconut), Breaded Shrimp, Fried Shrimp, and  Shrimp Tempura served with fries and dipping sauce.

Shrimper's Heaven is served with 3 types of sauce. I forgot to ask (it's not in the menu either) what are the names of the sauce but the red one is tomato, the green tastes like vinaigrette, and the yellow has a lemony taste to it. I love dipping mine with the yellow sauce. ;)

I love good onion rings. Good meaning the onion inside the breaded crust is still fresh.. not overcooked and the crust is still crunchy. Their onion rings come with two types of sauce, mayo and barbecue. I love dipping mine on both :) Wow, typing this right now makes me want to come back for more.
